Q&A: What do I do when I don't feel like practicing?

Question: Some days, I'm eager to practice, and on those days my music flows well. Other days, it's all I can do to do sit at the bench.

How do you motivate yourself on those days you just feel bad and don't want to ask your body to do anything?


Be ok with feeling terrible and just do it badly.

In about two minutes, it'll change.

Be willing to and still make your fingers do the things. 

If you really, really can't, then sit and breathe. Breathe and let yourself feel those feelings. You don't have to try to figure it out, but if you want to, ok. You don't have to try to find a reason for the feelings, but if you want to, ok. Simply acknowledging how you feel can be a very pivotal part of your practice and can help you take a leap in performance.
